When will it ever be enough? This is a question that I find myself constantly wrestling with. By nature, I'm a very growth-driven person, and I'm an optimizer, so no matter what I accomplish or what milestone I cross, I'm never really satisfied. Some people think that's a good thing. And on my good days, I probably agree. Thinking you have "arrived" can be dangerous because it can lead to complacency. But I wonder if there is a deeper question that I'm not willing to ask, "Will I ever be enough?" If you looked at my life on paper, by every measure I am a success. I've started multiple successful businesses, I've started nonprofits, I'm on multiple boards, I have a wife and 4 kids that love me, I've taken care of both sets of my aging parents, and I try to practice generosity every way I can. But I wonder...is this just how I hide? Is performance and success my way of hiding from the reality that I don't think I'll ever measure up to my own expectations? Or my parent's expectations. Or even, YOUR expectations of me? It's a good question that most people are not brave enough to ask: "Why am I doing all of this?" #DeepThoughts #MidLifeCrisis? #TooHeavyForAFriday

Picture this... You’re all set to make a donation to an organization that you care a lot about. You’re on the donation form. You’ve made it this far. 🎉 Just a few more clicks and your donation will be complete. But wait… ❗️ What’s that at the top? 🤔 A navigation bar beckoning you to explore elsewhere. Suddenly, your focus wavers, and your intention to donate gets diluted. Ooooh look…. it's a blog! That’s cool. Let me check it out. ⤴️ Click. This is a classic example of 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧— any unexpected items such as navigation bars, competing calls to action, distracting links, and messages that are not related to the giving experience. We wanted to test and see how an unexpected item on a donation form affected donations. So, we removed the navigation bar on the donation form. The results? Though it was a small sample size, the organization saw 𝐧𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐚 𝟐𝟎𝟎% 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 by simply removing the bar on top of the form.💲 So take a look at your current donation form. Is the navigation bar there? If so, test what happens when you remove it and let us know the results! #OnlineFundraising #DonationFormOptimization #Fundraising #FundraisingTips #NextAfter

Imagine transforming your fundraising efforts with a simple strategic shift. 🌟 Position recurring giving as the default option on 𝑨𝙇𝑳 of your fundraising appeals. Here’s why…. Recurring giving means donors commit to making regular donations over time, providing a steady stream of income. This approach ensures ongoing support for your programs, increases donor lifetime value, and makes financial planning more predictable. 📈 Most nonprofits traditionally ask for one-time gifts with an option to make it recurring. It’s time to invert this strategy... 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫. Highlight the impact of recurring donations upfront and make recurring giving the default option, with an opt-out for one-time gifts. We’ve tested this approach with various nonprofits and found that leading with recurring giving 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. To make this shift, start by reviewing your current campaigns and identifying where you can lead with recurring giving. Update your donation forms and communications to prioritize recurring giving. Then, track the results and be ready to tweak your approach based on donor feedback and behavior. Remember, you don’t always need new campaigns or complex tests to raise more money... Sometimes a simple mindset shift is all that's needed to transform your program and amplify your impact. 💡 #RecurringGiving #SustainerProgram #Fundraising #NonProfit #NextAfter

In 2021, organizations that embraced a digital-first strategy saw a remarkable growth rate of 22.5%. Why? Because they could quickly adapt when traditional fundraising channels like direct mail and in-person events faltered during the pandemic. Digital strategies allow for 𝐬𝐰𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐩𝐢𝐯𝐨𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥-𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐝𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬, making campaigns more agile and responsive. In today's world adaptability isn't just beneficial—it's crucial. A digital-first approach not only keeps your operations running smoothly but also enables your organization to seize opportunities and test new approaches with minimal risk. #Nonprofit #Leadership #DigitalStrategy #Fundraising #Agility #NextAfter

I want to hear your hotel horror stories. If you have traveled enough, I'm sure you've had one of those overnights that was just, you know, "memorable." Here's one of mine 😬 I had flown into Charlotte with three colleagues for a client pitch the next morning. Being a @Marriott guy, I booked three rooms at the Renaissance hotel. We rolled up about 5PM and I suddenly was in a Seinfeld episode. "Sir, I'm sorry but we are completely booked and unfortunately we cannot accommodate you this evening." "But I have a reservation." "I understand sir, but we don't have an rooms available." "That's why I made a reservation. So that I would have a room." "I understand that sir." "I don't think you do." Anyway, in full on scramble mode we parsed through every single travel app. Nothing. I have no idea what was going on in Charlotte that week but there was literally no room at the inn. Finally I found a room at some obscure motel. It's only one night right? I mean, I've been camping before-- how bad could it be? The slogan inscribed on my keycard should have tipped me off, "May nothing but happiness come through your door." Dear God-- I hope nothing comes through my door! I walked up an outdoor stairway to my room. Right outside my room was a toothless hairless woman chain-smoking sitting on the porch with her Pitbull. "Welcome to da neighborhood," she mumbled. Then she told her dog to, "stay away from him-- you don't know him yet." "Yet?" As quickly as I could (while trying not to look nervous) I entered my room and closed the door. As I went to affix the lock, I noticed that the doorframe was all cracked; like the door had been busted open like with one of the metal log things that the SWAT team uses on TV shows. I guess happiness isn't the only thing that comes through these doors. I know-- time to use the backup lock-- a chair in front of the door. Needless to say, I didn't sleep a wink that night. After the car stereo subwoofer contest that was literally happen for 3 hours straight right outside my window, and the sound of at least two gunshots, I took a pillow into the bath tub and laid down because I think I saw in Boyz in the Hood that bathtubs can basically repel bullets. It was certainly a night to remember. Oh, and the pitch went great the next day. We got the business.
