Data centers in space! Two-seater personal drones! Uzbekistan’s first unicorn! Real-life Mario Kart! That was just Day 2 of #LEAP25 in Riyadh! As I sit in #RUH’s ALTANFEETHI Lounge, awaiting my 2 a.m. flight to #FRA and then onto snowy #ORD, I am reflecting on an extraordinary few days at one of the largest tech conferences globally. The expected was there: massive, sleek booths, dealmakers working the floor, globally renowned speakers, and the persistent chill of overly aggressive air conditioning. However, what truly captivated me were the unexpected learnings: ✅ Space-Based Data Centers: Thanks to SpaceX’s Starship, this concept is not only feasible but is now in active production. The benefits of unlimited solar energy, ultra-cold temperatures, and boundless expansion capabilities mean that data centers in space will soon surpass terrestrial solutions in both efficiency and cost-effectiveness. ✅ Municipal Mobility Initiatives in the GCC: With most driving distances between destinations within a few hours, electric vehicle range anxiety is becoming obsolete. #Dubai is poised to be the first city to transition entirely to electric vehicles in the foreseeable future. ✅ Uzbekistan's Tech Rise: Uzum, Uzbekistan’s first e-commerce and fintech unicorn, has already captivated a third of the population. Expect it to expand aggressively and become a formidable regional competitor to giants like Amazon. All of these are examples, and there are so many more, of how there are brilliant minds (of all ages) building, shipping, and scaling products and platforms everywhere. What is crystal clear is that we are about to embark on a new golden age of technology. One would think it is because technology has gotten so cheap, or that AI is now available to the masses. Nah. The reason we are finally going to see flying cars instead of 140 characters is because founders, young and old, are thinking bigger than they ever have before. Support your local entrepreneurial ecosystem. Get on a plane and go visit other ecosystems in another state, country, or continent.
