In the face of frequent natural disasters that devastate lives and property, companies with technology and expertise that can help have a responsibility to make a difference. Recently, Intelsat stepped up during the hurricanes in North Carolina and Florida, providing emergency satellite connectivity and equipment to support relief efforts. And now, we are of course providing important support to some first responders and non-profit groups in the Los Angeles area. Diverting resources from business priorities is never easy, but I believe that in these types of catastrophic situations leaders have a moral obligation to act. In my latest #Forbes article, I share insights on preparing for crises, collaborating with partners, and balancing purpose with priorities. We discussed the importance of resiliency, innovation and government-industry collaboration… all crucial to ensuring speed, agility and global security. Thank you Tom Stroup and the #SIA for hosting such an important event.

Today, we honor the dedication and sacrifices of those who have served in the armed forces, as well as the contributions and sacrifices of their families. Veterans Day in the United States and Remembrance Day in many other countries are occasions to reflect on the courage and commitment of our military personnel. These days remind us of the profound impact that veterans have had on our history and continue to have on our lives today. Our sincerest gratitude to our employee veterans and all veterans for everything you have done to help protect our citizens and allies around the world. #VeteransDay #RemembranceDay

Earlier this week, Intelsat lost our IS-33e satellite after a sudden anomaly. The satellite provided service to many loyal customers throughout parts of Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. We are working to restore service as quickly as possible, and many customers and partners are already back on other Intelsat or third-party satellites. For 60 years, Intelsat has worked with customers around the world to deliver reliable connectivity. We are deeply disappointed by this loss and the inconvenience it has caused our customers and partners. Despite the challenging situation, I have just observed something incredibly impressive. In my entire career I have never seen people come together and jump into action, in an exceptionally difficult situation, as effectively as the hundreds of Intelsat team members just did. Our Operations and Engineering teams worked tirelessly around the clock to try to determine the status of the satellite, coordinating with United States Space Force, the Space Data Association, and Boeing to gather data and observations. Our Government and Commercial teams immediately reached out to customers and partners, finding solutions across the fleet of GEO satellites. I want to acknowledge our customers’ incredible patience and cooperation in helping us meet their individual needs. And just to be clear, other satellite operators, often our competitors, stepped in to assist us in getting our customers back online. Everyone knows that “space is hard.” The outpouring of people and collaboration from across the industry has been remarkable. I’m proud of my team, our customers and everyone in this industry.
