Your job search will consist of... - Plenty of sleepless nights - Periods of hope, and periods of hopelessness - More than a few *@#% words - Staring at a laptop screen in disbelief - Fantasizing about various "what-if" scenarios - Tears of disappointment And eventually, a huge celebration. Stay the course. This is all completely normal.

I'm frequently asked how to reclaim control over one's career. Here's what it's not: - It does not require you to start your own business. - It does not require you to leave the workforce. - It does not require you to stop caring. But it does require a complete mindset shift. Reclaiming control over your career means taking proactive steps to: 1. Develop a LONG-TERM career strategy (no more "winging it") 2. Reduce your exposure to career risk 3. Acquire unique skills that are highly in demand. 4. Learn the necessary marketing skills (resume writing, interviewing) 5. Build strong internal and external networks 6. Create a strong, definable career brand. (visibility) In other words, you become highly desirable to employers. And when you gain the upper hand in the employment arrangement, you'll no longer experience the ups and downs of the job market. You'll no longer be at the mercy of employers or low-ball offers. Because you'll be the one THEY'RE chasing. This is freedom. This is power. This is a long-term game, and it all starts with strategy. ________________________________________________________ PS...if you're ready to learn how to reclaim control over your career finally, I created a FREE webinar. You can find details in my bio.

I was once interviewing for a job I was well-qualified for. Things were going great. - The recruiter told me I was exactly what they were looking for - I had built a great rapport with the hiring manager - And they were even talking about a possible offer But as I was waiting for the green light, something odd happened. Their communication slowed to a crawl, then just stopped. I was given the run around. "We are waiting on someone's approval who's on vacation." Turned into... "We have to get clarification on budgeting..." After 3 more attempts to get an update, I stopped reaching out. I had been ghosted. Naturally, I was devastated and annoyed, writing them off as a company I'd never want to work for. Eventually, I found another (even better) job. But that's not the end of the story. About a year later, the same company (with a different recruiter) reached out to me for another job opportunity. They didn't recall my candidacy from the previous interviews. I politely declined. (It's much easier to do when you don't need a job) Here’s the thing about ghosting - you lose the candidate forever. You'll never forget them, even though they might. Have you ever been re-recruited after a company wronged you?

While recording my most recent video, I realized I had hit a significant milestone. 400,000 YouTube subscribers!! (The crazy thing is my analytics show only 10% of my viewers are actually subscribed.) I want to sincerely thank each of you who's supported what I do. It was always my mission to demystify how careers and job searches work at major corporations, but I never dreamed that this many people would pay any attention. Humbled and thankful! If you're invited to interview... They already like you. They've seen your resume and were intrigued enough to call. It's up to you to show that they were right to be excited. Your mission now is to: - Develop relevant and timely stories - Show your fit - confirm they were right about you - Neutralize any objections and flip the script And ultimately, get the offer. Remember, 100s of others didn't even make it this far. Getting in the door is half the battle, and you've already aced it. Remember that the next time you're nervous in an interview!

When I look for a job, I have firm boundaries. I value my time, expertise, and career progression. And if a company doesn't respect them, I move on. Here's my list: 1. I don't perform work for free (to show if I'm "capable"). 2. I don't complete assessments at the application level. 3. I don't commit to 2nd interviews without discussing salary. 4. I don't entertain jobs that pay well below my expectations. 5. I don't invest time in lengthy take-home projects. 6. I don't tolerate belligerent or degrading interviewers. 7. I view no company or job as more worthy than I. 8. I don't participate in more than 5 interview rounds for any role. 9. I don't negotiate low-ball offers. 10. I don't consider "alternative opportunities" at their request unless the job fits into my long-term plans. The common theme? Mutual respect. This isn't being egotistical; - It's about taking ownership - It's about valuing yourself. - It's about sticking to a plan. Most people are not in a place to do this right now. But that's why you should strive to become the CEO of your career. (The good news is that you can, too, but it requires strategy) What are your boundaries?
