In this article, I break down the 𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀 that derail PMO implementations before they deliver real impact. From assigning the task to IT or consultants, to over-engineering processes, to relying too heavily on dashboards and tools—these common missteps don’t just waste time and money. 🧪 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗮 𝗱𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗼𝘀? If requirements are clear enough, not all of them, but the majority of them, then they should use a plan driven approach. If not, they need to elaborate progresivelly the scope. Agile projects must also finish on time—if there’s no due date, it’s not really a project! 🎯 As project professionals, we should be proficient in managing predictive, hybrid, and agile projects. The key question is: How clear are the requirements? ✅ If most (80%+) of the requirements are well-defined, a plan-driven (predictive) approach ensures structure and efficiency. 🔄 If requirements are uncertain and need progressive elaboration, an adaptive (Agile) approach allows for flexibility and iteration. 📌 Plan-driven & structured ✅ Requirements well-defined upfront 📊 Focus on execution & control 🔄 Adaptive & iterative 🛠 Requirements evolve over time 🤝 Continuous collaboration & feedback 💡 Choosing the right approach isn’t about personal preference—it’s about business needs, constraints, and risk tolerance.
