The Pain of Discipline or the Pain of Regret -Which One Will You Choose? Working in a world of entrepreneurs and leaders im quite often on a panel, at a lunch or on a stage with very successful people. So often they are asked 'What would you tell a young you to do differently?' 80% give the same answer...'I wish I had started sooner and be braver earlier!' We should all take control of future at the earliest point possible! Discipline is tough. It demands sacrifice. It never really ends. But itās also admired. It builds consistency. And it earns respect. Regret? Well thatās a different story. Regret lingers. It creeps into your thoughts. It whispers, 'you canāt'. It chips away at your confidence, reshapes your identity and grates you daily. Untilā¦..you choose discipline. Don't overthink, procrastinate, or mumble to yourself maƱana, maƱana... They are the thieves of time, momentum and flow, key superpowers in life and business. For those who know me, (apparently) my daily routine, which Iāve now kept for over 30 years, isnāt for the faint-hearted. And yet, it comes up in conversation more often than I can count. āHow do you stay so disciplined for so long?ā āGet up that early, train hard, ice baths, multiple businessesā¦blah, blahā Sounds a lot, but it's never too much because life is about prioritisation. As they saying goes 'If you think you can or you think you canāt, youāre probably right'. So how do you stay disciplined? - Donāt think about it, just do it. Because once you delay anything, the odds of it getting done, or at least done to the level required, diminish massively, life loves to throw you a swerve ball. Me? I choose discipline everytime. I am far more afraid of the pain of regret and guilt, than discipline and sacrifice. Start as you mean to go on. The earlier you start the stronger your foundations will be to create the life you deserve. At Talentdec.com you can get the right direction, advice and inspiration to be the best version of you, to become the future person you really want to be! Your job shouldnāt be what you have to do, its what you get to do! Most people spend at least 35% of their life at work, toiling away to pay bills, maintain a standard of living for themselves and maybe others. So why would you spend over a third of your life under duress, doing something you donāt enjoy, with people you donāt like, probably without any appreciation? When I look back at my life, the sectors and career Iāve āchosenā (not out of childhood passion, but by trial and error). Iāve found something I can excel at, because I love what I do! Growing up on a London council estate, of course I thought Iād go on to be a world champion boxer or a pro footballer. But the truth? I wasnāt good enough, or more accurately, I didnāt have the burning desire needed. If I did, I would have done more. What I did learn though is: āHard work beats talent when talent doesnāt work hardā I became good at something that no one around me thought I would or could do, which made me want to smash that challenge even more. On top of working 7amā7pm in my new career, I still had to make ends meet, I had a mortgage, outgoings, a fiancĆ© and yet... - I dropped my salary by two-thirds to a basic that covered daily bus fare and a sandwich - I worked as an ad-hoc labourer at weekends - I cleaned my sports clubs for cash-in-hand - Got home at 8:30/9pm ā run, train, eat, sleep⦠repeat! Then one day, the penny dropped. What once felt super hard to do just enough to not get sacked in a sector with 50%+ attrition, now started to ease. I got traction, then momentum, then I entered pure flow... My āscores on the doors' doubled, doubled, doubled, and then doubled again. But kudos wasnāt the focus. The financial medals were nice, but I knew I had more in the tank. So I kept going, with new ideas, solutions, and building 'skills that more than paid my billsā š¦¹š½āāļø Every obstruction I faced became an instruction on how to get around it. Never did I think, āOMG I have to work today,ā or āI canāt wait for Friday,ā or āThis is too stressful.ā Like anyone, I couldāve walked away in the tough times, but I didnt have to do it, I was blessed I got to do it. If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change. š There are millions of other things you could do. If you hate your job, then leave. Retrain. Study. Start a business. Emigrate if you must. Itās BS that you āhaveā to do that job. Youāre just too scared or too lazy to change. Dont play the victim and moan about your circumstance, then not work hard to change it. 27 years on and Iām still awesomely proud of what I get to do every day. š„° āWinners are just ordinary people who became extraordinary by never giving upāš„ Join TalentDec.com and gain access to the sounding board of skills and expertise to guide your next steps! Last week, I posted about how āThe adventure and the journey are the reward in lifeā, about using every minute and waking up excited for whatever the day might throw at you. Sometimes itās good, sometimes itās bad,but (IMO) itās always worth the challenge. My whole last week, as normal, was full of challenges. I was describing today to a friend what a great day I had on Thursday, and once heād listened, he replied: āThat sounds awful and knackering.ā š But he was very wrong, TBF it was actually my favourite day of the whole week! Albeit, just another day in the life of an ageing recruiter š“š¼who still loves the buzz of business, working with and mentoring amazing entrepreneurs, creating partnerships, and building networks. As I always say to my mentees: āDonāt count the days; make the days count.ā Every day, we are sacrificing time for the value of what you did and received. - Eight hours at work = time exchanged for a fixed sum of money. - Two hours scrolling on InstantGram = time you may have sacrificed from a football game, Yoga, gym session, or a meal with friends. The list is endless, but the message is simple: Spend your time wisely. Itās the one thing that no amount of money or power can buy back. āWe canāt always time things perfectly, ā¦but we can make perfect use of our time!ā So Thursday was one of those days, non-stop, energising and it just flew by! Hereās how it went: - 4:30am: Wake up (as usual) š„± - 5:15am: Train to London (Old St) from Herts - 6:30am: London Fight Club š„ - 7:00am: Heavy pad session with my old chum, Antonšļøāāļø - 8:15am: Shower & change (sweaty pic below!) š§½ - 9:15am:Train from London to Manchester - 12:00pm:Chaired a private lunch with 20 of RDLCās & the Northās finest CEOs(brilliant agenda with high energy) ššŗš» - 5:00pm: Discussions, debates, laughs & learning wrapped up.š - 5:15pm: Quick conversation with Luke M. (CEO of CSR) on his new sales rollout that quadrupled job pulls & a new huge blue-chip contract win šš¼ - 5:30pm: Train back to London/Herts Finished two innovative partnership plans for MATs, Reviewed, agreed, and confirmed legal docs on an acquisitionš¤ - 9:45pm: Home š - 9:50pm: Call with Jamie Fraser (CEO of Interex, dialling in from Miami) to talk growth plans, another cracking month, and a major deal about to close š - 11:00pm: Food. Shower. Bed. Done. - 4:30am Friday⦠up again. Ready for another challengešŖš¼ Be comfortable with the uncomfortable and you will grease the wheels of life! Have a great weekend and remember to prep Sunday, for a great kick off on Monday! RDLC Pirates Jagjeet Singh Uppal Steven Jagger Wayne Brophy Darren M. Adventure Is the Highest Form of Reward Life is just one great adventure. Every day brings a new challenge and every challenge overcome builds resilience, confidence, experience, and meaning. Everyday I wake and Im excited to see what is going to be thrown at me, what new challenge I can tackle, just in case the day is easier than expected Iāve generally bagged a horrendous ice bath and body destroying gym session before most have had their first waking yawn. I live to use every minute and enjoy every step of my adventureš The go getters in the world are biologically driven to rise to every challenge. Why? Because our brains and bodies reward effort, growth and commitment with a potent mix of natural chemicals: endorphins to ease pain, dopamine to spark motivation, serotonin to boost mood, and oxytocin to deepen connection. We are wired for adventure, and the reward is an addictive natural highš„³ In a world that wants you to be sedentary, dumbs you down, tells you to stay in your lane and use AI to give you instant answers, we know deep down that the adventure gives you something that AI never can: The memory muscle map, the competence and confidence, bound with an insight that tells you to go again. AI might tell you what the aggregated, homogeneous answer is.. But the adventure and the challenge, is what teaches you āWHYā an answer matters, its impact on you and your team, the blocks that were laid to build the path. Your team will support you and you them, to navigate towards a desired outcome, a virtuous cycle of betterment, but the weight of responsibility is always yours. Your journey, your team, so pick well. Responsibility and adventure are the same thing. If you want to increase your sense of meaning, influence, or purpose, you must volunteer for the adventure and take full ownership of wherever it leads. What could be more exciting that knowing you will never run out of adventures? āIf you donāt fail, youāre not even trying.ā āIf you want something youāve never had, you need to do something youāve never done.ā And remember: enjoy YOUR adventure. Learn from others but donāt just follow someone elseās path. Constant comparison is the thief of joy. We all admire vigour, adventure and achievementā¦..Because adventure is the highest form of reward! Every day we must act: Plot the map (day plan). Pick your team (questions & instructions) Plan the journey (Sell the outcome) Then begin without delay. Learn through the story, not through the facts; the story is the prioritisation of the facts. You need to sell feelings, not just facts! You can have all the data in the world, but if thereās no story behind it, it wonāt connect the dotsā¦. For them! Why? Because your story prioritises the facts. It tells people which facts matter, in which order, and why. Its what keeps them engaged. The story is the lens that makes the information meaningful. It connects the path, adds emotion, and gives people a reason to care. But the story has to align with the facts, as we all know that selling and buying is 80% emotion and 20% logic(factsš) Real life example - The number of times Iāve bought a car I didnāt need, at a price way above my original ceiling, and its all thanks to the ancient art of āMan Mathsā šŗš» Which is where I create an internal and emotional attachment to āwhy Iā needed the extra gadgets, a bit more speed, that specific colour and those shiny wheels, to then mix it up and combine it with a highly complex mental algorithm that convinces and confuses, me, and everyone else, that this financially, 100% works and is the best deal ever!šš¼š¤¦š»āāļøš A good salesperson sells you features & benefits. A great salesperson sells you outcomes. A top salesperson sells you feelings. In the words of Daniel Pink, āEverybody sells.ā - Whether youāre a CEO, office manager, chef, teacher, or car mechanic, everyone has to sell their expertise to move forward. What happens behind the camera is just as important as what happens in front of it. So make sure you have the team to help you align the facts, build the story, bring it to life, and present it to the world. At TalentDec.com you can connect with experts from all walks of life who will sense check, streamline, augment, and help you create the story of your life. As the old saying goes: āThey wonāt remember what you did, how you did it, or what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel.ā Build your team for life in TalentDecš #entrepreneur #Leader #MAT #CEO #Health #wealth #life #friends #NED #board #guidance #advice #success #fullfillment

Competence becomes confidence. Seeking advice, guidance and support isnāt a weakness, itās natural, and necessary. Nothing evolves without learning from the mistakes and successes of others, as well as ourselves. Five years ago, I took time to thank several people who had been instrumental in my growth. As we age, reflection balances youthful ambition with reality, helping us better understand the journey. I wrote letters to each of them to express my appreciation and acknowledge the impact theyād had. I hadnāt truly realised how much their subtle nudges had shaped my decisions and strengthened my confidence, dialling in many of my successes. Two of my business mentors were hugely successful, self-made and both now billionaires. When I was 27, one spent a whole day with me talking business and life, while introducing his entire SLT. The following day we signed a global contract for all their business, even though my company was just a month oldš¬ At 30, the other spent three hours with me before deciding to invest millions into a turnaround business, making me, at the time, the youngest CEO on the stock marketš¶š¼ In both cases, I didnāt have the experience, skills or even the CV to āproveā I could deliver. Yet we did, and we outperformed all of our competition. I didnāt chase the dream. The dream was too busy chasing me! And thatās the point; every time we step up, itās the first time weāre executing at that level. Itās not āfake it ātil you make itā, itās ābuild the team to deliver the dream.ā You just need to believe in yourself and then find the mavericks who believe in you to! Competence becomes confidence when youāve got the right support network. TalentDec gives you instant access to experts from every background and discipline. Sometimes all it takes is someone to affirm your beliefs, nudge you in the right direction or give you another piece of the jigsaw, to launch you forward. #entrepreneur #founder #SME #CEO #LEADER #HEALTH #Wealth #NED #Advisor #coach #MAT @talentdecentral Kellstar Dean Kelly #education
