The Dow is the lowest it's been in 2025. Why does this matter to organizations looking for grants from foundations? Foundations invest their funds (sometimes in investments aligned with the S&P 500). ⏩ If the Dow is down, the funds foundations invest cannot grow as much as anticipated. ⏩ In response, foundations may give less to preserve their endowment. ⏩ The state of the economy does impact how foundations and even individuals give. Let's hope things rebound soon so foundations can provide as many grant opportunities as possible.

You can: ✅ Focus on quality over quantity ✅ Save your most precious resource, your time ✅ Increase your number of foundation grants by working smarter not harder Drop "Find Grants" in the chat. Can you imagine putting in 100+ hours completing a federal grant application, and just before you submit, you get the dreaded notification from grants.gov that the grant you've been working on has been pulled for review (the words used are often modified or delayed)? Learn what to do in my latest Get.Grants.Better.® article, "What To Do When DOGE Cancels Your Grant."

Pain points 😫 ..... Are no fun. If you are a nonprofit leader, who has ever said the words: “We don’t have enough time to write grants.”” You are not alone. 🥳 The thing is it's tough to balance multiple organizational priorities and give grant writing the time and energy it deserves in order to win. This is why so many organizations that are racking in the grant money outsource the mundane- grant writing. Outsourcing your grant writing will free up your time and help you focus on other priorities like relationship building. Thank me later. ✌ #grantwriting #grants #grantwriter

Many of you have probably seen NSF's exhaustive "Dirty Word List" of DEI words that can no longer be used when pursuing grants. [See picture of cover page enclosed. I have the hard copy. If anyone has a link, please share. It seems to no longer be available online.] The list is three pages of DEI words segmented into five categories: status, social justice, gender, race, and environmental justice. Some of the words are commonly used everyday words that are also used in other non-DEI use cases such as "status", "trauma" or "toxic" (think mental health), and more. Some of you may see this as a challenge to overcome. For my team and I, we say challenge accepted. Since this list was released, we have written grants that had to adhere to this list. Do you know what I realized? 1. At the expense of an additional word and character count, we now have the opportunity to deeply discuss and describe those served. "Descendants of the African diaspora" or "..... Latin America" are a few of my favorites. These descriptions of the tapestry of our nation give these populations the power and attention they deserve. 2. There are a few words missing from this list ( 🤭 ) and yes, we will be using them EXTENSIVELY. 🤣 3. It is absolutely horrible that we have to adhere to this list in order to get the funding our clients need to do great work. The fact this list even exists makes me sick. However we will not be dismayed and we shall overcome. How have your experiences using this list been so far?

The secret impact of a falling Dow on nonprofit funding. 📉 Here's why foundations might give less when markets dip:

Grant funding is getting harder to secure. 💸 As more organizations pivot to foundation grants, competition is fierce.
