So excited to head to Napa in under 2 weeks! Multifamily Social Media Summit is one of my favorite events of the year. I'm especially excited as it'll be my first MSMS representing Apartment List and we have a lot to talk about this year. We've made a ton of progress in AI and are continuing to advance our marketplace in ways that have me feeling super energized. Dreaming big is important. Speaking those dreams out loud can feel vulnerable, too. This past weekend, Timothee Chalamet won a Screen Actor’s Guild award for Best Actor. And his acceptance speech has been received with a mix of positivity and backlash. Take a look at this part: “I can’t downplay the significance of this award because it means the most to me, and I know we’re in a subjective business, but the truth is I’m really in pursuit of greatness. I know people don’t usually talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats. I’m inspired by the greats. I’m inspired by the greats here tonight. I’m as inspired by Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando, and Viola Davis as I am by Michael Jordan, Michael Phelps, and I want to be up there. So I’m deeply grateful. This doesn’t signify that, but it’s a little more fuel. It’s a little more ammo to keep going. Thank you so much.” In business (and sports of course), we often here people refer to the Mamba Mentality. Today, I’m showing up to work with a Timothee mentality: An insatiable desire to be the best I can be for our business and team.

There is a ton of change happening in Multifamily tech right now. Another acquisition last week has put even more talent on the market. And this much talent being on the market is hard to absorb. I'm not an expert, but I've certainly hired my fair share of people over the past 10+ years. Here are a few things I'd highly recommend if you've found yourself on the market or think you might be wanting to make a change in the near-term. 1/ Reach out to your past leaders and colleagues. Where are they now? Is that work interesting to you? Whether it's to get insight in their career transition or to get insider support in plugging into a recruiting process. Your network compounds, and there is a good chance that your past leaders/colleagues are now in positions with more influence. 2/ Get references and do the work to get them in writing. Leading with references in a crowded recruiting environment is helpful. I'd especially recommend that you get an eclectic mix of them. Someone who has managed you. Someone you've managed. A peer. An executive. 3/ Market yourself. This one is hard - but trust me it is important. Post on LinkedIn, create an intro video that you can use to showcase a bit of yourself, get creative here! 4/ Go outbound with your job search. A lot of candidates are submitting applications, but few are following up with hiring managers, recruiters, etc. It is so important to control your destiny and this is an area that will help, but is also vulnerable as you're really putting yourself out there. ........ Cheering for you all and know that that there are some incredible opportunities out there. Apartment List is hiring selling roles across the country and account managers in the east coast. The team at East 7th is amazing to work with. I love branded merch (surprise!). The team has been creative. They’ve been fast. And they’ve been accountable whenever we’ve had an issue. Shoutout to Daniel Kirkham for continuing to elevate the merch that we bring to market for our employees and partners. Thank you for the gift. Can’t recommend this team enough.

2024 President’s Club is in the books. As a first time host, here are a few things I really enjoyed about this trip. 1/ Held an opening reception on the first night. Folks are tired from travel, so we started early (5:30p). This gave everyone an opportunity to meet +1’s, and also created space for folks to wind down early if they wanted to. 2/ Booked an all team event on the last full day. We did not do all team things every day, but we prioritized spending a few hours on a catamaran with the full crew which was a spectacular way to connect and to have some fun. 3/ Did a closing dinner (hosted by our CEO and CPTO) and formally acknowledged all of the club qualifiers. At the end of the day, this trip only happens with top performance. 4/ Made small group dinner reservations for the middle nights. This gave people the option to connect as a group or to do their own thing. It also opened up the ability to explore the amazing cuisine in Cabo. 5/ We assembled a small planning committee to divide and conquer with logistics and planning. We called it the “tequila committee” and this trip would not have worked without them. Special thanks to that committee: Hailey, Matthew, and Davi Graham. 💜 Now it’s time to get back to work so we can do it again next year.
