I’ve just been spurred into action by Jen Blandos , who posted on the subject of plagiarism. I recently created the post below - a 23 page branding guide in the format of a pdf carousel. I've seen it copied across LinkedIn, with my name and details removed, many times by many people—literally deleting me from my own content - passing my work off as their own. It’s not a problem I’m trying to solve because that’s impossible, as frustrating as it is. Rather than letting it anger me, it’s prompted me to fine-tune my communication methods. It’s crazy how many hanger-ons there are out there. It’s really opened my eyes. So, I’m posting it again, with my name and full details this time. I may do so again in the future. If you care about plagiarism, maybe give it a share. Or if you just like the content. A big "booo!" going out to all those not playing fair. Last week, something nice happened. I produced a little carousel/presentation. The idea to put it together came to me after years of explaining to my clients how brands and branding actually work. My brief to myself was to demystify the whole thing in under five minutes. Well, it went down an absolute storm on LinkedIn. I think it must have around six million unique views by now. The guys below will be able to confirm (or not) more accurately. There was a small cloud of sadness that momentarily blocked my otherwise sunny day: people were sharing the file without tagging me. Lesson learned: even if you think a piece of your content won’t take off, copyright every page and add contact details. It will get shared, and you won’t be credited. It’s your hard work, so look after it. 🙏 I know the genie’s out of the bottle, the horse has bolted, and the cat’s out of the bag. Or is the horse out of the bottle, and the genie’s in the bag? I don’t know, but it involves a bag, horses, and a cat, and I am going attempt to rectify the situation a little. Here’s the amended original with my details. I hope you like the presentation.
