Elections in the City of London can be confusing! Following my nomination for the role of Alderman for Dowgate Ward, I can report that I am uncontested and so will be formally re-elected on 18th June. #Thankyou.  I am delighted to have the honour of serving Dowgate Ward and the City. I stand as an independent and believe that I can best serve with my experience, track record and engagement with businesses, residents and the City. I am committed: 1.     to ensure that the City of London remains the World's global financial centre; 2.     to create a sustainable, resilient City for all that makes profound economic sense; 3.     to promote the best legal system empowered, funded and independent to determine disputes and facilitate commercial activity; 4.     to provide the right environment for a thriving economy. Engaging with Government and the regulators is key to ensure that business is bolstered.   5.     to improve City logistics including transport and the physical environment providing sufficient office accommodation, leisure facilities and a public realm like no other with green spaces and quiet corners. UK's legal system makes a major contribution to our economy and preserves the rule of law which is so important to our stable governance and reputation. The latest annual report by TheCityUK records the pre-eminence of legal services as part of our economic success and underpins the importance of financial and business services that always includes the legal and maritime sectors. A few facts? - legal services contributed £37bn to the UK economy in 2023 -368,000 people are employed in the sector of whom 2/3 work outside London making this a national treasure -64% of Commercial Court cases in 2023 were international in nature and 93 nationalities were represented in the Commercial Courts according to the Portland report 2025 -28,601 disputes were resolved by Alternative Dispute Resolution -all of the world's top 50 law firms have offices in London -1.52 million individuals were formally dealt with by the Criminal Justice System in 2024 according to the Ministry of Justice UK I am proud to be a career lawyer in the City of London DLA Piper and keen to support the work of the City of London Corporation in building the new Courts complex at Salisbury Square to house 8 new Crown Courts and rehome the Magistrates and Mayor's and City of London Court. All much needing an upgrade.  In addition to the ongoing support of the Central Criminal Court – the Old Bailey – and its exceptional Judges and staff who deal with a vast workload of murder and major crimes. What is the next step? I am pleased to say that my nomination to stand again for #Dowgate Alderman has been validated by the Electoral Services team. Thank you to the five electors who signed the form Rebecca Tomlin, PhD FCA William Boyce KC Jago Toner David Homer and Eoin Cumiskey. I will keep posting about the issues raised with me and the plans that I have to keep the #CityofLondon a thriving and innovative place to live and work.

Its official. The City of London Corporation has now issued notice of the election in Dowgate Ward and all the voters should be aware of the timing. A happy voter sent me a copy of their letter below. The Ward Noticeboard on Dowgate Hill has been posted. Dowgate Ward has 614 electors who are made up of many individuals who work in the Ward and are nominated annually by their employers and some (important) residents who live here. The election will take place on the 19th June if there is a contest. It will be at the Church of St Michael Paternoster Royal – a great chance to see inside this Grade I listed building. Like any local election people can vote in person or apply for a postal vote or a vote by proxy. The City website has guidance and here is the link to the postal vote form that is quite easy to complete. https://lnkd.in/e3TkS59b A copy of the form is annexed.
